ABOUT THE DJS:
OSCURE (Los Angeles Breakbeat Association/Space Island)
Since
the time hip-hop music and break-dancing first hit L.A.streets two
decades ago, Oscar Gamboa II A.K.A. Oski-D, or the infamous Oscure has
been one of the integral pioneers of the LA Underground scene. Sharing
a devotion to music and a passion for its perpetuity, Oscure and
several of his friends established the party crew B.A. Boiz in 1988.
B.A Boiz threw small warehouse events and created the highly revered
second room at the former after-hours "What?" in 1990. Becoming a
resident at the longest running L.A. party-F.A.M.I.L.Y solidified his
position as one of L.A.’s premier underground DJs. Spinning hip-hop and
funk at this weekly event gained him recognition among his
contemporaries for the distinct flavor of music and creating an
incredible atmosphere. It was at this juncture in his professional
career that Oscure spun at his first full-fledged rave, Dippity-Do in
1992. Then served as a resident for L.A.'s infamous No-Doz, D.A.R.E.,
and Caffiend. L.A.’s next after-hours from 1991 through about 1997.
Oscure established The Los Angeles Breakbeat Association In 1996, a
collection of L.A. DJs who support and promote the Breakbeat sound.
Pushing the Breakbeat scene further in Los Angeles the L.A.B.A. is now
in full gear. His first record entitled "Oscure presents
FunkyGhettoPhonics" released on his own independent label L.A.B.A.
Recordings has received great reviews and lots of rotation.
TODD SPERO (Integral Gatherings/B-Sides)
Todd
has been in many collectives and groups that have brought the true
meaning of underground dance music to Los Angeles. He was one of the
principle architects of the collective Insulin which ran for many years
in warehouses, forests, desert and the occasional club around LA. He is
one of the musical directors for the Integral Gatherings (a collective
know to go out into the wilderness of Los Angeles on the New Moons). He
is also one of the original core members of the Los Angeles Burning Man
Regional, which has thrown a yearly party for thousands every year in
the streets of Downtown LA. He is a member of the infamous B-Sides
collective, Alien Underground, and too many more to mention.Todd is
also a producer of dance music. With his first release on John Selway's
Tension label, he plans on rolling out more tracks in the very near
future. From playing for thousands at massive raves to playing for
dozens in ultra-secret renegade parties, you will find Todd wherever a
crowd gets it. And if they don't, he'll try to make sure they do by the
end of his set.
MARK ZABALA (Ninja Skillz)
Mark Zabala
plays a wide variety of styles, but he tends towards dirty, driving,
techy and psychedelic sounds mixed in with a good dose of percussive,
glitched-out funk. Mark was recruited alongside some of Southern
California's leading talent to form the Ninja Skillz crew. Ninja Skillz
has risen to the forefront of the Underground Community with successful
appearances at major LA nightclubs like Spundae @ Circus, Giant @
Vanguard, four sold out festivals in Mexico, The Hollywood Palladium,
and several outdoor events all over the West Coast.
DJ DAYHOTA (Re-Invent Music)
“…Funk
Queen Dayhota (a.k.a. Shannon Ialongo), who energetically works the
crowd as she spins, looking as if she’d rather be on the dance floor
than stuck in the dj booth."
David Prince (Spin Magazine)
David
Prince of Spin Magazine gives Shannon Ialongo the title of “Funk
Queen”, but the world of house music knows her as the infectious DJ
Dayhota. Her trademark cutting-edge style combined with her high-energy
filled DJ sets put DJ Dayhota into the upper echelon of the underground
industry. A Chicago veteran of house-music, Dayhota has entertained at
clubs worldwide: Centro-Fly and The Limelight in NYC, Motor in Detroit,
Rain and Ice in Las Vegas, Sno-Drift and Ruby Sky in San Francisco and
Level and Nikki Beach in South Beach (Miami). Spring 2006 marked the
release of DJ Dayhota's first mixed CD Catch Me on RE-INVENT MUSIC
followed by Stomp This on STOMPY.COM. Catch Me is an aural journey of
unique tracks and top-shelf mixing. In the summer of 2005 Dayhota
collaborated with fellow SuperJaner Lady D to work on a remix for
Showtime's critically acclaimed series The "L" Word. Tommy Boy Records
picked up the remix and released it on a L Word CD compilation.
SAADHU + LOOMER + pSILENT (Bass Ritual/Afterburn)
Residents
Saadhu & Loomer hold down the monthly Afterburn @AREA33 as well as
their own long-standing westside throw down Bass Ritual. Running the
gamut from minimal to breaks, their genre-defying sets, impeccable
selections and floor-filling energy have earned the respect of party
people and music heads alike. And when fellow Bass Ritual DJ pSilent
drops in with his bag of tricks, loops & fx, get ready for a
one-of-a-kind sonic journey. http://www.bassritual.com
